2021 Mallaluka Syrah

WINEMAKER: Sam Leyshon
VARIETAL: Syrah
REGION: Canberra District, NSW
VITICULTURE: Organic/Sustainable
"Fruit in equal parts from Gundagai, Hilltops and Canberra District regions. 30% whole bunch fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Basket pressed into seasoned French oak barriques for 10 months maturation. Blended before bottling. No fining or filtration.
Silky, floral, delicate with a persistent back bone that drives this wine with a long finishing palate. Let it open up to allow the classic darker fruits to show off. Hold some back for a few years if you can. You’ll be rewarded with some cellar time for sure."
Sam Leyshon is the man (the myth, the legend) behind Mallaluka. After time at Clonakilla and a stint with the iconic Jean-Louis Chave (woof), Sam now produces his own thoughtful, naturally made wines from the Canberra District with fruit from the family vineyard and select, trusted growers. We have lots of love for Sam.
