2021 Frederick Stevenson Pinot Noir

VARIETAL: Pinot Noir
REGION: Adelaide Hills, SA
VITICULTURE: Organic
WINEMAKER: Steve Crawford
"Adelaide Hills -> Sub Region Summertown - 500-550m elevation, east facing. Sandy loam w a touch of clay over shale. Planted in 1992. As result of conversion from spur to cane pruning, yields were reduced this year, and then supplemented with some MV6 pinot from the the Whilsmore vineyard (Chardonnay vineyard). This has given the wine a bit more perceived weight on the palate and a touch more fuller flavour. Around 30% whole bunch, natural ferments, 9 months in oak (15% new), 1 month in stainless steel before bottle.
Cherries, plum and dark chocolate cake the nose, with a touch of stewed rhubarb, spice and pine resin.... A lick of noble reduction in the wine. Its a medium weighted pinot, that sits across the tongue, full of plums, cherries and dusty / spicy tannin. Fresh acid to close, whilst the tannin sits in the middle like sucking on a cherry pit..."
Steve Crawford started his Barossa label under the pseudonym of Frederick Stevenson whilst working at a larger winery. One of the nicest guys in wine that continues to impress each and every year.
