2019 Marc Delienne Abbaye Road
WINEMAKER: Marc Delienne
REGION: Beaujolais, FR
VARIETAL: Gamay
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic/Biodynamic
100% gamay from steep slopes in Fleurie, vines anywhere from 40 to 80+ years old, organically managed. Goes from concrete to old barrels and rests for just under a year. Very giving. Decant if drinking early.
In 2012 Marc Delienne quit his day job to move to Provence to work with Eloi Durrbach of Domaine Trevallion. He then worked with Alain Graillot at Domaine de Fa, while searching for a vineyard to call his own. It was Graillot that insisted that Delienne look for a site in Beaujolais. In 2015 the dream was realised with the purchase of Chateau de l’Abbaye, in the heart of Fleurie.
Domaine Marc Delienne is located in the south-eastern corner of Fleurie, where vines stretch down in to ancient granitic loam soils. Here where it is hotter and more exposed than on the steeper rocky soils of La Madone, Delienne has abandoned goblet training, in favour of trellising to provide shade during the warmer months. He has achieved organic certification for all his plots. Delienne restricts the amounts of SO2 given to all wines to less than 10ppm at bottling.
