2019 La Cadette Vézelay La Châtelaine

Though Vézelay is a geographic appendage of Chablis, the soils are not exactly the same. Instead of the Kimmeridgian soils, the clays here range from blue and gray to red, sometimes with no clay at all but just shallow limestone. While the climate is slightly cooler than in Chablis, the vines enjoy great sun exposure, lending a balance between generous fruit and deep mineral structure.
La Châtelaine is one of La Cadettte’s best cuvées made from the only permitted white grape variety in the newly upgraded Vézelay appellation, Chardonnay. The appellation was previously Bourgogne Vézelay but was promoted to Vézelay due to the superior quality of the white wines in this region.
