2018 Yahou Fatal ÇA Vin
VARIETAL: Gamay d'Auvergne
REGION: Auvergne, FR
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
WINEMAKER: Manuel Duveau
"Catherine Dumora and Manuel Duveau are cult producers making tiny quantities of wine and cider under two different labels: l’egrappille and Yahou Fatal. They tend to old vines on basalt soil in Châteaugay, just north of Clermont-Ferrand, and work with apples and pears from old or abandoned orchards. Digestibility and energy are hallmarks here — across both labels — and all work is undertaken with indigenous or hybrid varieties.
As an insight into what makes Gamay d’Auvergne such a tremendously delicious variety, this is a benchmark example for me. Deep and dark forest berry fruit is set over a brooding, scorched earthiness. It sounds intense but that’s the terroir talking — this wine is so alive, bright on the palate and refreshing. Great with a little chill and very difficult to put down." - Campbell
