2022 Champ Divin Pinot Noir
WINEMAKER: Fabrice & Valérie Closset-Gaziaux
REGION: Jura, FR
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
A 100% Pinot Noir from Cotes du Jura AOC, cultivated in limestone clay soils. The grapes are handpicked in early September, fully destemmed, and undergo indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Six months of maturation occur in neutral demi-muids, followed by bottling without fining or filtration. The wine displays crunchy black cherry fruit, notes of star anise and violets, accompanied by earthy and gamey undertones. Hints of pine resin and spruce add complexity to the chalky tannin structure. A harmonious balance of sweet and savoury, propelled by lively acidity, creates a deeply enjoyable and juicy profile.
True artisans of the land, Fabrice and Valérie Closset-Gaziaux acquired 5 hectares of Jura vineyards in 2008 which they immediately converted to organic and biodynamic. Their backgrounds are in Earth Sciences and were advisers to growers in the Loire valley on organic practices. They have always loved working in vineyards and when the opportunity presented itself, with a retired vigneron in Gevingey, they jumped and didn’t look back.
