The Barrel Shepherd The Afterlife - Syrah

A Belgian style beer rested on syrah pomace for nine months. The base beer was brewed in October 2020, later returned to barrel for maturation, then inoculated with naturally foraged house yeast and bacteria named 'Sunshine'. This tart and dry beer is a beautiful balance of the earthy tones from the Belgian saison and cherry-like aroma from its time on syrah skins, courtesy of Carto wines.

The Barrel Shepherd is a tiny brewery/blendery based in Wollongong, NSW using 100% locally grown, organic grain, whole fruit, sourced locally and/or organically when possible, and fresh pomace from trusted winemakers. Exclusively wild and native yeasts and bacterias to create nuanced beers that reflect their landscape - TERROIR!
